Memsource Editor

Spellchecker

The Memsource Editor has an integrated spellchecker supporting many languages. The service only checks spelling and not grammar.

The Desktop Editor must be online to use the spellchecking service.

To run the spellchecker, press F7 or select Spellcheck from the Tools menu. Spelling errors are underlined in red and displayed in the QA pane.

Clicking on an underlined word displays suggested spellings and if the original spelling is confirmed, it can be saved to the dictionary by selecting Add to Dictionary.

Spellchecker User Dictionary

Enhance the Spellchecker by adding a custom list of correct words in XLSX format. Added words are not shared; they are only available to that specific user.

To add a custom list, follow these steps:

  1. Linguist - Sign in to the Linguist Portal.

Project Manager - Sign in to Memsource.

  2. From the Setup Setup_gear.png page, scroll down to the User Settings section and click on Spellchecker User Dictionary.

The Spellchecker User Dictionary page opens.

  3. Click Import.

    The Import window opens.

The list can also be exported to an XLSX file by clicking Export.

  4. Click Choose File and select and an XLSX file for import.

  5. Choose an import option and click Import.

The words are added to the Spellchecker.

Note

Using Spellcheck QA with custom words in the User Dictionary can result in differing results between users.

External Spellchecking

Translation jobs can be spellchecked in external applications that support DOCX files such as MS Word or Open Office Writer. This is useful for languages such as CJK where spellchecking services are difficult to implement.

To spellcheck a job externally, follow these steps:

  1. From a Project page, select a job to be spellchecked.

  2. Click Download and select DOCX.

The job is downloaded as a DOCX file.

  3. Open the file with an external application.

  4. Run the spellcheck utility in the external application.

  5. After correcting identified errors, save the file.

  6. From the Project page in Memsource, click Tools and select Upload.

The Upload Bilingual File window opens.

  7. Click Choose Files and select the file for upload.

  8. Click Upload Bilingual File.

The job is updated with the contents of the bilingual file.

  9. Open the job in the editor and confirm remaining segments.
